In order to develop healthcare professionals’ knowledge and skills, medical education programs must address the evidence-based unmet medical education needs of a specific target audience.

Merck Healthcare KGaA looks forward to receiving grant proposals in response to our requests for proposals (RFPs) for medical education programs in the listed disease areas.

Oncology

Oncology is the branch of medicine that deals with tumors, including the study of their development, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Tumors are characterized by an uncontrolled cell growth. Certain chemical, environmental and genetic factors may favor tumor development in different parts of the body.

Neurology and Immunology

Neurology is the branch of medical science that deals with the nervous system and its diseases, including various acute and chronic disorders of the central nervous system, such as Multiple Sclerosis, Myasthenia Gravis, Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease. Globally, neurological disorders are highly prevalent and have many different causes, ranging from neurodegeneration to abnormal autoimmunity.

Immunology is the branch of medical science that deals all diseases and disorders of the immune system, including its structure and function, such as Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and fibrotic diseases. Globally immunological disorders are highly prevalent, chronic and progressive in nature resulting in high unmet medical need.

Fertility

Reproductive Medicine is the discipline studying the various underlying causes, and the resulting consequences and treatment of infertility. The rate of infertility has increased in the last 30 years, and globally the disorder has been recognized as a public health issue by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Cardiometabolic Care and Endocrinology

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are disorders of the heart and the blood vessel system (including heart failure, heart attacks, coronary heart disease, hypertension). Globally, CVDs are the primary cause of death: According to the World Health Organization (WHO) an estimated 17.3 million people died from CVDs in 2008, representing 30% of all global deaths.

Endocrinology is the branch of medicine that studies the physiopathology, secretion, metabolism and diseases associated with hormones. Hormones regulate many important physiological processes, including growth, development and metabolism. Diabetes, for example, is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by disturbed or failed insulin production by pancreatic cells.
